Discover Natural Fibres Initiative – DNFI.org

The General Assembly of the United Nations declared 2009 to be the International Year of Natural Fibres (IYNF) in recognition of the benefits of natural fibre industries to the world economy, the environment, consumers and to producers around the world. One of the specific objectives of the IYNF was to bring allied natural fibre industries together for mutual support in the communication of the importance and benefits of natural fibre industries.

At the conclusion of the IYNF, representatives of 15 natural fibre organizations met in Frankfurt to form in January 2010 the Discover Natural Fibres Initiative (DNFI) to continue this important work. The DNFI highlights activities to promote greener and more efficient agricultural techniques for growing natural fibres, efforts to improve life of the poor who are involved in natural fibres and to encourage increased demand for natural fibres.

Representatives of natural fibre industries as diverse as Abaca, Alpaca, Angora, Camel, Cashmere, Coir, Cotton, Flax, Hemp, Jute, Mohair, Ramie, Silk, Sisal and Wool participate in DNFI. There are no membership dues, the organization has no budget or offices, and the organization does not conduct projects. Anyone with an interest in natural fibres is welcome to join DNFI by registering on the web site.

DNFI is composed of individuals and organizations from around the world who voluntarily and independently share information about natural fibres.
