On the day before the 34th International Cotton Conference Bremen the DNFI members and supporters had the opportunity to meet in the historic building of the Cotton Exchange in the Hanseatic Town of Bremen. Some members used the provided video conference system of ICAC and the Bremen Cotton Exchange to join online.
Dr. Terry Townsend, Chair of DNFI welcomed the participants followed by reports about current state of Cotton, Jute, Hemp, Sisal and Wool by representatives of the international fibre organisations. As sustainable textiles are an important topic, representatives of a German multi-stakeholder initiative presented there roadmap to 2025. State-of-the-art machines are essential for the industry, therefor the head of exhibitions of the German Textile Machinery Association reported about the ITMA 2019.

The next meeting of DNFI will be held in Cologne on 11 June beginning at 4:00 PM. A detailed agenda will be sent out ahead of time. Preliminary topics include a presentation on organic cotton and several presentations related to hemp and similar fibres. At the next day the 15th International Conference of the European Industrial Hemp Association (EIHA) will follow. Michael Carus, Vice Chair of DNFI and leader of the Nova Institute, is extending a 20% registration discount to those who wish to participate at the conference.
The next Annual Steering Committee Meeting of DNFI will be held on Wednesday 9 January 2019 in Frankfurt Germany during Heimtex fair, beginning at 3:00 PM.
