Depending on the continent and climate zone, natural fibers grow all year round. The dependence on local and global weather influences changes the quality and quantity of the fibers at the time of harvest or during and after cleaning and processing.
Geopolitical or regional events are other factors affecting the availability of natural fibers. In the case of statistical evaluations, it must be taken into account that some regional harvest periods also take place at the turn of the year.
World production of natural fibres is estimated at 33 million tonnes in 2024. The February estimate is 700,000 tonnes hgher than the estimate relased just one month ago, and 1.3 million tonnes higher than the estimate released in November 2024. The current estimate for 2024 represents a rise of 1.3 million tonnes from 2023. World natural fibre production reached 33.2 million tonnes in 2006, and rose to a record of 35 million tonnes in 2011. Even though production in 2024 was the highest since 2017, production was still less than 13 years earlier..
A new category in DNFI tables, Fibral Fibres, with banana, pinapple, palm fibres has been added.
