The Alliance for European Flax, Linen and Hemp has published a landmark reference document on environmental assessment, designed for all flax sector stakeholders, from growers to manufacturers, brands and retailers. In response to evolving regulations and strengthening corporate sustainability strategies, the European flax sector now has access to a valuable new resource in the form of the European Flax-Linen Environmental Footprint Guide. The publication is structured across five chapters and covers the core principles of LCA (Life Cycle Assessment), the business and regulatory drivers for engagement, ISO and PEF (Product Environmental Footprint) methodologies, sector-specific European data, practical case studies, and a comprehensive FAQ section.
Against the backdrop of increasing reporting obligations under the CSRD Directive and eco-design requirements under the ESPR Regulation, achieving methodological alignment and co-developing robust datasets remain key challenges. This guide reflects the Alliance’s commitment to addressing these issues by providing shared tools and offering support tailored to the needs of each stakeholder across the value chain.
